About the Ashiko Drum: An ashiko is a kind of drum shaped like a truncated cone and meant to be played with bare hands. The ashiko drum is played throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas. In eastern Cuba, it is known as boku and is played during carnivals and street parades called Comparsas. Some consider the ashiko to be male and the djembe female.

The Sweetest Drum I Own
I was a little nervous when I bought this rope tuned drum. I am a percussionist in our church band and have been playing for over 15 years. All my drums are bolt tuned, I have always shied away from rope tune drums, but Mark from X8 Drums told me it was really simple to tune and he told me about the tuning video on the site, I must say after watching the video and tuning my Ashiko it was so easy even a kindergarten kid could do it. This is by far the best sounding drum I own and I won a lot of drums. Thanks Mark for taking the time to explain everything you have made my drum experience with you very enjoyable. Happy Drumming!!
