With its classic gourd shape and natural coloring, the X8 Drums Shekere looks and sounds just like traditional shekeres that originated centuries ago in Africa.
Inspired by the all-natural gourd look, feel and sound of these original shekeres, ours is crafted of lightweight, but extremely durable, fiberglass and wrapped in an intricate latticework of hand-strung plastic beads that generate the loud, vibrant rattle that gives the shekere its distinct and instantly recognizable sound. The bottle gourd shape ensures excellent resonance and volume. Strike the bottom, top and sides of the instrument with your palm to create drum-like bass tones that add unique flavor to any type of music including Caribbean, jazz, salsa and more.
The lighter weight, thicker neck and wide body combine to produce deep bass tones when struck with your hand on the bottom and makes our fiberglass shekere easier to handle during your performance. The protective rubber ring surrounding the open mouth area also adds comfort as you hold and rotate the instrument with your free hand.
