Description
Watch a video demonstration of this doumbek:
Toca's Jamal Doumbek is a fitting tribute to its namesake: master doumbek player and educator Jamal Mohamed. The stellar Lebanese-born percussionist has worked with such artists as Sting, Mark O'Connor, and Giovanni Hidalgo, and he's a member of such notable ensembles as D'Drum and Brahma. Now Jamal has collaborated with Toca's designers to create a doumbek that clearly reflects his expertise and originality.
The innovative design of the Jamal Doumbek starts with a fiberglass shell that offers durability and resonance as well as proper balance for playing comfort. Adding to the drum's durability is a rubber bottom edge that protects the shell against unexpected bumps. Fitted atop the shell is a pre-stretched synthetic head that provides great playing response and a wide frequency range while eliminating tuning hassles. The result of this combination is a drum that produces deep "doum" (bass) sounds and articulate, penetrating "tek" (high) sounds that are sure to suit the most stringent musical applications.
The big sound of the Jamal Doumbek belies its compact size. At just 16" tall, with a head diameter of 9-1⁄2", it offers a portability that players are sure to appreciate. They're also sure to appreciate the Jamal Doumbek's unique appearance. The shell features a beautiful hand-applied Antique Silver finish, with the words "Jamal" and "Toca" prominently embossed on the surface. Even the head is a work of art: It's silk-screened with a decorative pattern that alludes to this classic instrument's ethnic heritage.
With its innovative combination of new-world technology and old-world character, the Jamal Doumbek offers the best of both worlds. Designed by a great performer, it's ready for your great performances.
