Cultural Drumming Revives Belize

An Indian cultural festival was held earlier this month in Belize. Indians arrived in Belize through indentured servitude in the 19th century and although many of the descendants of those original immigrants have not retained a lot of the culture of their ancestors, since 2009 an organization has been working to change that. As reported by News Track India, an annual cultural festival has been put on since 2011 and includes the sounds of Indian drumming and music. About four percent of Belize’s population is Indian and in the past three decades more Indians have been immigrating to the English-speaking country.
