Best Community For Music Education Program Recognizes Schools' Commitment to Music Education

At X8 Drums, we believe that music education is essential to a well-rounded education because it instills culture and creativity in students, allows students to express themselves, builds relationships, and creates a sense of community. And, of course, learning and playing music is fun! The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMMF) shares our views on the value of music education and even created the Best Community for Music Education (BCME) program to recognize school districts on their commitment to music education.

For the second year in a row, the Lynbrook School District in New York was awarded the honor because of the continuing collaborative efforts of teachers, administrators, students, and parents to create and maintain comprehensive music education as an essential part of core curriculum. The district was also awarded for its extensive music education offerings, including over 50 music ensembles and a strong Theater Arts program, and state and county music honors.

When designating districts the honor of BCME, the NAMMF considers a variety of aspects of schools’ and districts’ music education programs but focuses a lot of attention on access to music education and strong commitment to the standards and quality of that education. “These districts make a strong commitment to music education in the core curriculum, supporting its essential value to a well-rounded education for every child,” NAMMF executive director Mary Luehrsen told the LIHerald.com.

Congratulations to the Lynbrook School District on your second consecutive BCME honor! We encourage all schools and school districts to include music education in their core curriculum.
