Meinl Professional African Djembe with Village Carving
When an ordinary djembe just won't do, the Meinl Professional African Djembe is just what you want. It allows you to create a rich and varied sonic tapestry filled with sharp cracks, angled edge tones and rumbling, rolling rhythms. Play this djembe fast or slow, loud or soft with measured tones or steady slaps that cut through and add definition to your particular style of music.
Meinl artisans put a lot of time and effort into the production of each drum to ensure you get a percussion instrument that exceeds your expectations in every way. Each one is crafted with great attention to detail and provides outstanding, full volume sound.
The goblet-shaped drum body starts as a single piece of environmentally-friendly, plantation-grown mahogany wood. It's expertly formed on a lathe, then patiently hand-carved with an intricately detailed village scene around the base. The hollowed out interior is also carved by hand to tune and shape the sound. Adhering to the traditional Mali weave tuning system, the large, hand-selected 12"Ν goatskin head is tightened down with high quality, 5mm HTP nylon ropes. Thirty vertical runners keep the head in tune and properly balanced for easy playability and superior sound. The extra roping is then tied into a handy carrying strap. 24"Ν tall.
