The Women of India's Melam Drumming

Melam drumming in India is typically thought of as a male-oriented practice, but, as a group of women are proving, the drumming tradition has a new, feminine face. According to Times of India, women from Kannur have taken the lead in melam drumming, touring the country and introducing the people to their own version of the art. These women not only educate, but, are learning that the example they play in the lives of their own children can help future generations break through outdated age and gender thought.
