The Steel Rhythm of Peace
Steel drums are being used to promote peace in Israel. Peace Drums, a grass-roots program led by religious leaders, wants to promote a “people to people” peace with the instruments. Since steel drums have no cultural or ethnic ties to Christians, Jews, or Muslims, the instrument makes a great mediation piece. Delaware Online reports that the drum band will be comprised of twenty children from the three faiths. A University of Delaware music professor, Harvey Price, has been helping the program. Harvey has started three steel bands, already, and the children in the bands are Ethiopian Jews living in Israel. Read more here:
