Psychedelic Rock Movement Loses Shining Star

Jefferson Airplaneā€™s drummer from 1970-1972 has passed away. Joey Covington was 67 years old and crashed his car into a retaining wall in Palm Springs on Tuesday afternoon. His wife suspects he had a stroke or heart attack prior to the crash and police say no drugs or alcohol were involved. Friends recall Joey as a happy, kind person and successor band Jefferson Starship left a final note for the drummer on their Facebook page. In addition to drumming for Jefferson Airplane, Joey was also the drummer for Hot Tuna, an offshoot. Jefferson Airplane was a pioneer of the psychedelic rock movement.
