Hit Like a Girl in 2013
Women drummers are rapidly becoming a strong force in the world of music today. Drumming greats like Sheena Easton, Cindy Blackman and Meg White have continued the tradition of breaking a gender barrier that proves women can, and do, rock the beat just as easily as the boys. Drum! Magazine reports that NAMM recently held a press conference announcing the 2013 “Hit Like a Girl” competition will launch on January 24, 2013 – a follow-up to the 2012 global competition. The “Hit Like a Girl” competition strives to promote women and girls in drumming around the world through online entries that will be judged in categories that include technique, musicality and the overall effect of the drummer.
