African Drumming Program Showcases Florida Women
Women are breaking through stereotypes in the world of drumming each day, proving that rhythm isn't just a man's world, as many may think. According to Miami New Times, this rhythmic call is no more apparent than in the Miami World Music Festival's 2013 headline act, Venus Rising. This group of women combines cross-cultural drumming and dance traditions together, while keeping the beat of African drumming alive, in addition to Middle Eastern, Cuban, Russian traditions and more. As the headline act of this Festival, Venus Rising promises to entertain, enrapture and educate the audience about relationship of women and drums, and how we are all connected through the power of rhythm.
