Percussion enthusiasts are always looking to expand their sound repertoire. And that’s where the Meinl Cajita comes in. The cajita itself has been around for centuries, but modern percussionists are just now beginning to appreciate its versatility and contribution to different styles of music.
The word cajita is Spanish for “little box.” Developed from the classic Peruvian folk instrument, the Meinl Cajita hangs around your neck and is played with a wooden striker in one hand, while your other hand controls the lid handle, opening and closing it to create a wide variety of sounds, effects and moods. Explore all the different sounds and intriguing rhythms the cajita can deliver as you strike various points all along the top, sides and front of this versatile wooden box.
The traditional sloped design is larger at the top and smaller at the bottom to generate greater sound diversity and rhythmic interest. Each one is crafted by Meinl artisans using sustainably grown and earth-friendly rubber wood and features a soft nylon cord that comfortably supports the box around your neck. A solid piano hinge and ergonomic, easy grip handle makes the box top easy to open and close. Includes wooden striker. The cajita is 63/4" tall with a 63/4" top and 4" base.
