Ludwig Drums
The Ludwig brand started in 1909 when a pair of drumming brothers, Bill and Theobald Ludwig, invented an improved bass drum pedal. This new design, which used a spring to keep the beater off the drum, allowed drummers to create faster tempos. Following this bass drum pedal, the Ludwig brothers created a hydraulic action timpani drum, giving Ludwig drums a name in the world of percussion instruments. This spirit of innovation has been the backbone of the Ludwig brand for many years. Ludwig drums has consistently been at the forefront of American drum manufacturers with innovations in pedal technology, lug design, and the materials used in manufacturing such exemplary drums.
Ludwig Drums received a huge popularity boost in the 1960s when The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr displayed the Ludwig trade name on his bass drum, right above the The Beatles’ logo. Since then, Ludwig drums have graced many stages across the world during performances by bands such as Journey, Rush, KISS, Hall and Oates, Rascal Flatts, and Aerosmith.
